Hieroglyphs were not only for complex uses, like name plates for the Pharaohs. Some simpler uses would be recording. Recording was one of the main uses of hieroglyphs. Think about it, how else would the Egyptians write anything down? Today we have writing on pretty much everything.
This magnificent, 700 word alphabet was also used when it came to spiritual believes. The Ancient Egyptians believed that what was written in tombs and temples with hieroglyphs would come true in the afterlife. That would give them the advantage to draw and write about themselves, family members, and friends with good attributes and a healthy life style.
Hieroglyphics were also used due to circumstances of the dead. The main reason they were used for funerals was to paint spells written in hieroglyphs on the tomb of the deceased to guide them in the afterlife.
Last but not least, hieroglyphs were used for communication.Thanks to this marvelous type of writing, the Ancient Egyptians could easily write. Before the Evolution of hieroglyphs there was no way to write a letter to anybody. Considering there was no internet they would ahve to write letters or physically talk.
So hieroglyphs were used for everything. Complex, simple, or straight-up difficult uses.
